Cozy, comfortable, warm, and with a menu that made my friend and I change our minds about what to order, wanting to order everything in it. Excellent selection of German and other local favorites, with fantastic beers and any other drinks one could think of. We would come back, and did, twice! We will miss this place. We stayed at an Airbnb nearby. We came here to eat either lunch or dinner most days. We were treated great! The food was fantastic. If you don’t try their special Haushendl you’re missing out. We stopped in at Hendl & Gretel in Stuttgart and were genuinely impressed. The roasted chicken was exceptionally moist, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully balanced with a bright citrus touch from the lemon. The skin had a wonderful crispness while the meat remained tender and juicy — exactly what you hope for from a classic roasted chicken done right. The salad was equally memorable. Each bite felt like a small journey through flavor — moving from sweet to savory and back again, with a wonderful mix of textures. Fresh greens, crisp vegetables, and light dressing created a harmony that was both refreshing and deeply satisfying. The umami balance was outstanding, elevating what might seem like a simple salad into something truly special. This meal managed to feel comforting, vibrant, and refined all at once. We would happily recommend Hendl & Gretel to anyone visiting Stuttgart who appreciates quality ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and flavors that really deliver.
